Kenya and Tanzania with Nairobi

We went to Africa on a fluke.  Almost two years ago I asked my husband what he’d like to do for our upcoming 2023 20th wedding anniversary.  He said he’d like to go to Africa.

I was stunned.  We had never, not once, discussed Africa.  But I dug in and scheduled several meetings with the Africa team at Globus.

After becoming totally enamored with the Globus Africa product, and determining the tour I thought delivered the most wow factor, I bought the maximum group space, 20, over the dates that were most desirable.

Here’s the thing.  On the final night of the trip, when everyone was listing their #1 experience on the tour, Doug let the entire group know he’d suggested Africa flippantly, never dreaming I’d actually make it happen.  I’m a European expert, after all.  Boy, did I knock this one out of the park.  Doug told everyone in the group that this trip was the most amazing of his life, and I want to go on the record as saying it was the best of mine as well.

In the upcoming blogs I want to share with you some of the incredible experiences we had on the trip.  At the end of the first day of game drives two of my long-time customers came to me and said “if we don’t see another animal on the entire trip, today alone made this trip worth the money”.  Just yesterday another client called to tell me the exact same thing.

Africa isn’t for everyone.  There are plenty of waivers about the rigorous nature of the tour, about the days spent on game drives, the dust, the heat, the bugs, the wildlife, the climbing around, the tent camps, the immunizations, etc.  In fact, when we got to within two months of our departure date a few customers said “this better be worth it” due to the Kenya and Tanzania Visa processes, the malaria pills, the yellow fever and typhoid shots.  One of our biggest hurdles was how to pack for 16 days in one carry on and one backpack, maximum weight limit 33 pounds.

Africa is a challenge. And I can’t wait to go back.

Stay tuned for more.
