Travel Trends 2022-23
I usually write my travel trend blog in January every year, but so much has changed since the first of 2022 I thought I needed to keep you updated.
First and foremost, the price of fuel, combined with pent up demand, is driving travel prices higher than I’ve ever seen. Both airlines and hotels/resorts can command, and get, top dollar for their products.
I bought the air for my birthday trip to Punta Cana at the end of April. The trip is in June. I paid over $1250 per person for the flights. That’s insane. That’s more than I’ve paid to go to Europe. In fact, I’ve booked recent air to Africa and Europe for less. Does that tell you how high the demand is for Caribbean flights?
The best places are booking up first, so if you wait until the last minute (and by that, I mean anything less than 90 days from departure) you are going to pay through the nose for your trip and most likely not be able to book the resort or room category you prefer.
I don’t want to be Debbie Downer, but we are dealing with it daily. Clients who are flabbergasted at the cost of their annual summer vacation.
Remember when no one could find toilet paper? It’s just like that. People are buying up the available inventory so quickly there’s nothing left for those who didn’t act well in advance.
Travel is a supply and demand business. The highest demand dates are always the highest priced dates as well. Christmas travel is the most expensive of the year, followed by Spring Break. If you plan to travel Spring Break 2023 you need to get that booked immediately.
Seasoned travelers know to book their trips 11 months in advance, if at all possible, to get the best pricing and availability, especially over those high demand dates.
If you’ve noticed, our private group opportunities are selling out over one year in advance of our departure dates. In fact, I just announced my private tour of Greece for fall 2023 and it sold out in just two weeks.
Everyone you know is itching to go. Please, if you want the best price and best choices, book early. Especially for those trips that aren’t available year-round, like Alaskan cruises, Christmas Market tours/cruises, or exclusive offers, like our private tours.
We appreciate your business and wish you a very happy summer vacation.
Your Globetrotting Friend,
