Top Places to See for Yourselves
The one question I hear the most after 18 years in this industry is “what’s your favorite destination”?
Greece. For those of us fascinated by history, there’s just nothing like the BC historical sites in Greece to really get the heart thumping. But on top of that, the food, the culture, the scenery. Greece, you’ll look back on your trip fondly, forever. Guaranteed.
For romance, truly inspirational architecture, great food and fascinating history, I love Paris. Doug and I were stranded in Paris when that volcano went off in Iceland back in 2010. We had nine glorious days investigating every nook and cranny. I fell in love with it and have remained in love with it to this day.
If you have time to venture outside of Paris, France is my #3. The countryside, the villages, the amazing medieval buildings, the food, I can go on and on. There are even significant BC Roman ruins. France, it’s a must see for any serious world traveler.
Spain blew me away. I know you were expecting Italy next, but trust me when I tell you Spain has everything you want to experience and more. The vistas will leave you spellbound, amazed by the beauty before you. The people are so welcoming, the pricing is very affordable. Lots of BC Roman ruins, too. The history, it’s fascinating, above and beyond your expectations.
Italy is of course right up at the top, as you would expect. Venice, Rome, Florence, but also Orvieto, Greve Chianti, San Gimignano, places that are a little dot on the map will leave a huge mark in your experience.
Scotland. I am in love with Scotland. If I win the lottery, I will buy a second home in Scotland. The scenery, the people, the food, the history, the culture. You can’t miss out on Scotland.
England. I don’t know why, but around here people tend to be a little “ho hum” about England. England is fascinating, with such a close tie to our own history that any look back reveals a lot about us as well. Great historical sites, amazing museums, wonderful food and people, incredible countryside. England will not disappoint you and there’s no language barrier, so it’s a fantastic choice for a first time to Europe.
Once you’ve kissed the Blarney Stone you just seem to be drawn back and over and over again to Ireland. Greener than you can ever imagine. More lovely than you will ever be able to adequately describe to your friends and family. Wonderful people, incredible food. It’s a fan favorite here for many reasons.
The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. For sheer WOW factor, my recent tour of these three countries literally blew me away. I would do the exact same trip tomorrow. Gorgeous countries, amazing and significant history, currently powerhouses on the international stage. Amsterdam, Bruges. I can’t say it enough, take the trip.
Hawaii. I’ve been going to Hawaii for well over 30 years. Each island is so unique, so gorgeous, so magical.
I haven’t even mentioned Austria, The Czech Republic, Germany and Switzerland, Slovakia, but if I had more room you have to know those are on the list of “must see” places.
I encourage you in the coming years to #TakeTheTrip. There’s so much magic out there, just waiting for your arrival.
