During a recent interview I was asked what sets The Joy of Travel apart. Most people immediately think of our golden rule “we don’t recommend anywhere we haven’t tried first”.
But as importantly and predominantly as that, from the first day I opened the door, I not only wanted to see the wonders of the world for myself but wanted to be standing beside you when you saw them.
Maybe it’s because I started The Joy of Travel in my hometown of Eufaula Oklahoma, where my customers weren’t just customers, they were also friends.
Right off the bat I wanted to go to Italy, but I wanted my friends to get to go, too. That’s how it started, my first private, personally escorted tour. It was fantastic.
That was back in 2007. Since then I have escorted groups literally all over the world.
My agents have my same mindset. They want to see the world and have you right along with them for the fun.
We are just weeks away from a first for us. Back in 2020 we bought out an entire Avalon Waterways River cruise ship for the April 1, 2022 Tulip Time itinerary and filled it to capacity in less than a month. I was awarded the national 2020 “Leadership in Travel” award due largely to the Tulip Time success.
We are following Tulip Time with a land tour of Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg. I’m calling it my War and Chocolate tour because it focuses on historic battle sights as well as the world-famous chocolates of the region.
2022 continues with Ireland, Italy, Scotland, and a Danube Christmas cruise. I almost forgot about my Birthday Bash in the Dominican Republic coming up in June. All of this with one of our agents as your hostess and all but the Danube Christmas cruise as private events.
In 2023 I am taking you on a private photographic safari to Kenya and Tanzania, My agents are taking you on private tours of Ireland (Lori) as well as Ireland and Scotland (Doreen). We have a group to Alaska (Shawnda) in the works as well as a fall river cruise (Doreen) and a Christmas cruise (Kassey).
In 2024 I’ll be offering private tour of Paris, Normandy and the Loire Valley (I have done this one before and love it). I am also putting the final touches on a private, multi-country tour of Europe that will include Amsterdam, Heidelberg, Lucerne, Beaune and Paris that will be escorted by Lori Curtis.
2024 will also include a custom Christmas Market tour featuring our favorite Christmas Markets-Prague, Nuremberg, Vienna and Budapest escorted by our own Heather Butler-Young.
2025 is shaping up nicely with a private tour of London, Amsterdam and Paris hosted by our own Erica Shaw. It will be followed by another total Avalon Waterways ship buyout. It’s a surprise destination. I’m sworn to secrecy for a few more weeks.
We can easily book you into any escorted tour or river cruise. Even independent vacations. But honestly, for us it’s so much more enjoyable when we experience the adventure together. It’s called synergy, and it’s especially true when it comes to our private groups.
