London is a fabulous “first time” trip to Europe for an American. There’s no language barrier, and other than the fact they drive on the wrong side of the road, you’ll get along splendidly.
During my trip to London I headed first thing to the Tower of London. Begun around 1078 by King William I, the Tower was built as a fortress. It remains remarkably intact and is home to the crown jewels. Ann Boleyn and Catherine Howard, two wives of King Henry VIII, were beheaded here.
